Air Emissions

INALUM continues to strengthen its emission control measures to safeguard air quality and support more sustainable operations.

Air Emissions

Emission Control

In line with its mission to operate an integrated aluminium smelting business that is profitable, safe, and environmentally responsible, INALUM is committed to creating value for its stakeholders.

The smelter is equipped with a Gas Cleaning System designed to control emissions from exhaust gases, including fluoride and dust from the reduction plant, as well as sulfur oxides (SOx) and tar from the Anode Baking Plant.

The system comprises 27 dry scrubber units connected to three potlines. During gas treatment, alumina is injected into gas streams containing fluoride. The fluoride reacts with and is adsorbed onto the alumina. The fluoride-enriched alumina, along with other particulates, is then returned to the smelting process, while the treated gas is discharged through the stack.

Emission Control Facilities

Emissions from aluminium production in the electrolytic reduction cells are controlled using dry scrubber systems, which use alumina to capture hydrogen fluoride (HF). The HF-laden alumina is then recycled as a raw material in the aluminium smelting process.

Emissions from the anode baking process are controlled using a demister and wet scrubber system. Water from the wet scrubber is directed to the wastewater treatment plant to ensure that the treated effluent meets applicable environmental quality standards before discharge
