Greenhouse Gas Emissions

INALUM is committed to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across all aluminium production lines, in line with the Net-Zero Emission 2050 target and referencing the ASI GHG Pathway.

INALUM Drives Emission Reduction and Environmental Innovation

INALUM is committed to minimizing the environmental impact of its operations, including conventional air pollutants and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), established under the Kyoto Protocol, provides a framework for cooperation between developed and developing countries to support GHG emission reduction projects. As an industrial company in Indonesia, INALUM voluntarily participated in the implementation of this mechanism.

In recognition of its CDM implementation, INALUM received an international carbon credit award from LRQA in 2012. Furthermore, according to the LME Passport Sustainability Disclosures 2022, INALUM was classified in Range 1, corresponding to emissions of 0–4 tonnes of CO₂e per metric tonne of aluminium produced.

Historical and Current-Year Emission Intensity Achievements

In 2021, INALUM implemented a flagship emission reduction program: using LNG as a fuel in place of LPG. This innovation is based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) conducted by an independent party, aimed at reducing the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of the emissions produced.

According to the 2017–2020 Best Practice of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, this innovation had not previously been implemented in the metal processing sector, and INALUM is the first to apply it in Indonesia.
